May Favourites

Hi everyone, welcome back to another monthly favourites post! It feels like half of the posts I’ve uploaded this year have been monthly favourites, but it’s because I’ve been struggling so so much. Not only have I been in horrific pain, but I’ve had new and worsening symptoms and stuff going on in my personal life. Just like I’ve said the last few months, I’m going to try my absolute hardest to become regular with blogging again, but I thought that I would start off with my monthly favourites as they’re my personal favourites to read. Sorry it’s a little late, but I hope you enjoy anyway!

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Magic Star Powder

I was so excited when I heard that Jeffree Star Cosmetics were releasing their first complexion products, concealers and loose setting powders, I was so excited. I was dead set on picking both up, however I didn’t end up getting the concealer. There was a lot of information about explaining how little product you actually get for your money, and I really dislike it when brands try to pull that shit and assume that their customers won’t realise. I did decide to try out the loose powder though, as I’m constantly trying to find a favourite! Firstly, it smells amazing, like candy floss and sweets, but the smell doesn’t linger for too long so it won’t bother you all day. It leaves your face looking flawless, doesn’t look dry when you use it for baking and is honestly just an all round good powder. I’ve been having to stop myself reaching for it everyday as I don’t want to run out!

Flower Beauty Light Illusion Foundation

Honestly, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this foundation in a monthly favourites before, but even if I have, it deserves to be mentioned again. The Flower Beauty Light Illusion foundation is my #1 favourite foundation of right now. It’s beautifully dewy but doesn’t break down on my skin, and I love the finish of it more than any other other foundation. It’s a medium coverage I’d say, but definitely buildable. Not only that, but I’ve mixed it with foundations that I hate and it has improved the finish and wear of them- mixing it with the Fenty Beauty foundation has been the only way that I’ve managed to make that one work. It’s drugstore so it’s super affordable, I just wish the shade range was better than it is!

Revolution Baked Bronzer in ‘Holiday Romance’

I have been really enjoying my Kiko baked bronzer, but it is kind of pricey and also limited edition, so I wanted to find a more affordable one. This is so affordable and it’s amazing! It’s so hard to find a decent bronzer that doesn’t look orange but is still warm toned when you’re as pale as I am, but this one checks all the boxes. It isn’t super pigmented, which in my opinion is a good thing for products like blushes and bronzers, as it’s better to build the product up than apply a lot in one go, making blending very difficult. This is honestly just as good as my Kiko bronzer, it’s just a lot cheaper and a bit lighter. There are other shades too, so hopefully a lot of people will be able to find one that works for them.

Ofra Cosmetics ‘Star Island’ Highlighter

I finally got Star Island!! I was given a bit of money last month and it just happened to be on the day of a Beauty Bay sale, and Star Island was actually reduced which never happens! I love Ofra highlighters, but this is one of my favourites. It’s a champagne gold kind of shade, but pale enough to work for someone as fair as me. If you haven’t already tried an Ofra highlighter, I highly recommend them. They’re a little pricey but the formula is honestly unbeatable.

Lime Crime Wet Cherry Gloss in ‘Unripe Cherry’

I’ve loved my wet cherry gloss in Cherry Slime ever since I bought it, but it has green glitter so it obviously won’t work for every look. Online, Unripe Cherry looks like a kind of neutral very pale nude, but in person it’s definitely more peachy. I was a bit disappointed that it wasn’t exactly what I had wanted, but I love it so much anyway. Lime Crime’s gloss formula is my favourite, and even though this is peachy, the actual colour can be sheered out a lot, making it work over any nude matte lipstick. In the future I really want to try more of these glosses, as they’re definitely more of a wet formula than a sticky one, which is the perfect gloss for me!

Ofra Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick in ‘Miami Fever’

If you’ve been around here for long enough, you’ll know that I have looked for the perfect burnt orange lipstick for over a year and a half. I kept thinking I’d found the right one, then trying it on my lips and it not being quite right. Actually, I had wanted to try Miami Fever from Ofra for quite a while, but it was usually out of stock when I checked. I ended up picking it up at the same time I bought Star Island and I am so glad I did. Not only is it the perfect burnt orange shade, but the formula of this is beautiful. It dries down to a matte, but doesn’t feel uncomfortable whatsoever and lasts longer on the lips than any others I’ve tried. I really really want to try more of the Ofra liquid lipsticks now, as the formula is on a par with the Jeffree Star Cosmetics ones in my opinion, but they’re a little bit more affordable.

Urban Decay x Game of Thrones Palette

As you’ll see further on in this post, I started watching Game of Thrones (finally!) last month, and I loved it so much straight away that I decided to pick up this beautiful eyeshadow palette. I didn’t end up trying it for quite a while, as I ordered it the day that my family were in a car crash, so I actually left it in the box, unopened, for about a week. However, when I did, I loved it. I don’t usually go for palettes that have so few mattes, but even though this one only has three, I don’t mind as it’s definitely a treasured possession as well as a usable palette- does that make sense? The mattes are beautiful and so are the shimmers. The packaging is also super cool, as the box pops out to reveal an iron throne! If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you will most likely love this!

Make Me Up Missa on YouTube

I’ve definitely included Missa in a monthly favourites post before, but I wanted to talk about her again this month. A lot of you probably know that I spend a lot of time watching YouTube, as I’m bedbound pretty often. Missa’s videos are my favourite to watch and I never miss a single upload. She also can’t work at the moment as she is struggling with chronic back pain, which makes her even more relatable than she already is. If you love makeup, especially bright makeup and blue eyeshadow, then you will love her!

Game of Thrones

Finally, I absolutely had to mention Game of Thrones this month. I could well be wrong but I think that it took me about three weeks to watch, which is unbelievable really considering that I kept having to stop to charge my laptop, and I was also watching it on the same week that the car crash happened so I didn’t really have the most time to binge watch TV. I’m so annoyed at myself that I waited this long to start watching it! It’s the best TV series that I have watched in years. I fell in love with Arya, Brienne, Sansa, Jon and Sam, especially Arya as I really related to her. I already want to rewatch it!
