FAVOURITES 2019: Eyeshadow Palettes

Hi everyone- incredibly long time, no see! I’ve decided to get my arse in gear for the final week of the year and upload some posts on my favourite things throughout 2019. There are far too many things and I am way to indecisive to include them all in one post, which is why it’s going to be a kind of series instead. So of course I’m starting with my favourite things: eyeshadow palettes! I recommend all of these palettes for different reasons, and as I haven’t done many reviews this year, I hope that this gives you a brief insight into the palettes I’ve been loving and why. Hope you enjoy the post!

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Jackie Aina

Originally, I wasn’t going to purchase this and barely gave it a second glance as I don’t watch Jackie. The ABH eyeshadow formula is my absolute favourite though, and after seeing reviews and looking at the palette more, I fell in love with the colour story and got it. My favourite shadow in this palette has to be the shade that appears white in the pan: Trust Issues. It can transform the colour of other shimmer shadows when applied on top of it, and comes off as the most beautiful gold, which is why I love using it on my brow bone and inner corner. I’ve felt so inspired by this palette ever since it has been mine, and although it’s pricey, I highly recommend it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills x Alyssa Edwards

This was my number one favourite palette until I tried the Jackie Aina palette, and for good reason. Everyone said it was similar to the Riviera palette (which I also have and love) and when comparing the swatches next to each other, there are definitely similarities. However, I’d say that this one has more choice in good mattes, and the Riviera has more choice in good shimmer shadows. I love having more mattes to choose from which is why I think that this had my heart a little more than Riviera did. My favourite shadow in this palette, and the main reason that it was my favourite for so long, is the matte blue shade called Dream It. It’s one of my favourite shadows in my entire (huge) collection. It’s not as easy to work with as the Jackie Aina palette, and the formula in that one is definitely better but I will still always love this one.

Melt Cosmetics Gemini

I just love this palette. The colour story is everything that my grunge and green loving dreams are made of. The shadows are so soft, pigmented and incredibly lovely to work with. I picked this one up over the Smoke Sessions palette because this had more mattes, whereas the other was almost entirely shimmers. I fell in love with the formula and ended up purchasing the Muerte palette from Melt’s holiday collection. I can’t wait to get more use out of this in 2019!

Urban Decay x Game of Thrones

I actually only ended up watching Game of Thrones around the time that the final season came out, which was also around the time that Urban Decay released this Game of Thrones collection. I thought the palette was beautiful from the get go, but as I fell more in love with the show I decided that I needed this. Even if it was rubbish quality, I’d be glad that I owned it. However, I actually love the shadows so much. It’s rare that I love a palette with so few mattes so much, but for some reason I adore this one. Some of the shadows aren’t great (the shimmer purple applies incredibly poorly) but the majority are amazing and the mattes are perfect. I’m not sure if you can still get this anywhere, but any Game of Thrones and makeup lover would love it.

I Heart Revolution RevoPooches

This palette is a relatively new addition to my collection which means that it hasn’t gotten as much love as some of the others, but I really love it and wanted to include it in this post. The brand showed the packaging first, and I immediately decided that I was going to get it no matter how the inside looked. At first glance, the colour story can seem boring, but when you look properly it’s actually an incredibly fun, and pretty unique neutral eyeshadow palette. I’d never tried an I Heart Revolution eyeshadow palette before and was so impressed with the quality that I went out and got the Avocado palette from the same brand (that I still haven’t tried yet). It’s so affordable but still such good quality that I would recommend it to everyone, but especially dog lovers!

Beauty Bay Ultra Matte Brights

This was an early favourite for me in 2019 and I was shook by the quality. I’d tried out a couple of palettes from the Beauty Bay brand already and found that I loved all of the mattes but only some of the shimmers, which is why I chose the fully matte version of this palette instead of the one that had shimmer shadows as well. Throughout the second half of the year, this palette hasn’t had as much love as it did at first, but I created so many fun, creative and beautiful looks with it. The Beauty Bay brand is so affordable and their products are often really good quality, so if you want a palette with a wide variety of bright coloured mattes, I definitely recommend trying this one out.
