January 2020 Favourites

JANUARY 2020 FAVOURITES

Hi everyone! Yes, it’s really happening, I’m staying on the ball and uploading a monthly favourites post! Unfortunately I’ve been pretty sick throughout the majority of January, but I still have some favourites along with the things that I loved in December too that didn’t get spoken about as I did my yearly favourites. I hope that the start of 2020 has been better for you than it has been for me and that you enjoy this post!

Revolution Conceal and Define Foundation

I rediscovered this foundation in January and I really wasn’t planning to! I liked it when I first tried it, but always thought it was just ‘okay’ compared to my other foundations. I tend to prefer a more luminous finish and this leans more towards soft matte. However, I used it as I’m trying to use different products more often when I’m actually well enough to do a look, and I fell in love with how it looked and the way it wore throughout the day. I’d definitely use a more dewy primer underneath so that it fits my preference, but this is a really, really good foundation, especially for the price, and if I continue liking it this much I’m definitely going to repurchase it when I run out.

Revolution Pro Brow Pomade

Again, I was trying to use different products more often and decided to try getting back into pomades as I’ve been reaching for my Urban Decay Brow Blade over most other things for a while now. I haven’t tried the ABH one, but in my opinion this one from Revolution Pro is just as good, if not better, than the Benefit Kabrow. Well it is better because it’s cruelty free! I’ve really been enjoying using this along with my brow pencil and gel on most days, and I know it’s going to last me much longer than most of the other brow products I use do.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Brow Gel

This is a product that I’ve been using for quite a while now, but I repurchased it at the start of January. I originally bought it as part of the Power Duo that is sold on Beauty Bay as it also comes with a Brow Wiz, my absolute favourite brow product ever, so that’s what I did again this month as it was thankfully still for sale. However I picked it up in a darker shade this time, as the one I had at first was definitely a tiny bit too light. I honestly reach for this over any other gel- I’ve recently had to make myself pick up a drugstore brow gel to try just so I’m not using and promoting a super expensive one everyday. I really doubt that I’ll find a gel that compares to this one though, and the mini size lasts for so long that it’s definitely worth picking up the smaller size to try.

Barry M Havana Honey Lashes

I was wondering today why I hadn’t mentioned these in December and then I realised that it’s because I did a yearly favourites post instead of monthly favourites! These came into my life late last year but I’ve fallen for them hard and really want to pick up some more of them as I have a really off feeling that they’re going to be limited edition. These lashes are the perfect balance between dramatic and natural and look good with loads of different eye looks. They’re also incredibly affordable! I know that there were some other styles too, and I hope they’re still for sale (in which case I’ll link them)!

Huda Beauty Mercury Retrograde Palette

This palette from Huda has been one of my favourites throughout December and January and I still feel inspired by it every time I look at it. I wasn’t going to get it as I hadn’t really tried any Huda products before, but then I watched some reviews and it was particularly Missa’s that convinced me. The colour story really called to me from the first time I saw a picture of it, and I’m so so glad I went ahead and bought it. It has some truly beautiful pastel shades, along with some gorgeous purple tones, neutrals and shimmer & glitter shades which make it really versatile. For me, this is one of those palettes that I’m thinking about looks I can create with before I go to sleep at night. Those palettes are one of the biggest reasons that I love makeup so I really truly love it.

Fenty Gloss Bomb in Fu$$y

Buy now

This really isn’t a surprise to me as I kind of assumed that at least one of my mini Gloss Bombs would be in my January favourites. The main thing I asked my parents for at Christmas was the set because I really wanted to try the formula and thought that it was a great deal to try five different shades. I don’t usually ask for makeup (unless it’s with my birthday money from my parents, in which case I order it myself online) so it was nice to have some under the tree this year! I’ve found myself reaching for Fu$$y the most out of all of them. I also love Hot Chocolit and Confetti, and I know that I’m going to get a lot of use out of the other two brighter shades in summer, but Fu$$y is my favourite right now as it tends to go really well with any Nude lipstick. The formula is one of my favourites that I’ve ever tried, in the same league as the Lime Crime and Jeffree Star Cosmetics and I’m really keen to try out the original shade, Fenty Glow now.

Sex Education

I have been so excited for the second season of Sex Education to come out and I wasn’t disappointed! I still want to write a blog post on my full thoughts so I’m not going to give away too much or any spoilers on here, but I particularly loved the storyline with Aimee this season. The bit at the end with the decision that the only visibly disabled character made was a bit of a downer for me, but I’m still glad that there was some representation this season, and that the character was played by an actual disabled actor. If you haven’t watched this show yet I highly recommend it as everyone I’ve recommended it to has loved it!

My Chemical Romance

Let’s be real, My Chemical Romance are more like an all time favourite for me, but they’re especially relevant this month after they made their comeback. I’m not even going to lie- I cried when they announced they were back together. I’m not ashamed. MCR were my life as a teenager and helped me through some of the worst times of my life. I’m absolutely heartbroken that I can’t go to see them as I’m too sick for even a small journey, let alone one to Milton Keynes, but I’m really hoping that one day they’ll do a full UK tour and that I will be well enough to go so please keep your fingers crossed on my behalf! Anyway, I’ve been listening to them almost non stop all month, especially The Black Parade, and they really lift my spirits. I have such a strong emotional connection to their music and I really wanted to mention them in this post as they’re absolutely a favourite.
